Respiratory Disorders

Respiratory problems are discussed under two major sections of the texts: disorders of breathing and of cough. Hiccough was thought to be a precursor of respiratory disease which, if left untreated, could help to bring on tuberculosis. Certainly tuberculosis was as common in the past as it now is in the Indian subcontinent. Also apparently described are pulmonary edema, bronchiectasis, and a number of chronic pneumonia types.
