Whooping Cough or Pertussis

Symptoms similar to those of pertussis appear in the Hyangyak chipsong pang. A list of various “coughing diseases” includes symptoms suggesting pertussis, and the section on pediatrics describes symptoms similar to pertussis under the heading “Children’s Coughing.” The Tongui pogam and texts from the eighteenth century also describe symptoms that sug­gest whooping cough.
