Notes

1 This contribution is a revised version of an article that was first published in German: Tomann, J. (2021) “Nur Manner spielen Krieg? Frauen im Revolutionary War-Reenactment in den USA” in Stach, S. and Tomann, J. His- torisches Reenactment. Disziplinare Perspektiven auf ein dynamisches Forschungsfeld, DeGruyter: Berlin.“You can’t just put men in the field and be accurate” 233

2 A larger number of interviews were conducted during my fieldwork, which is part of a larger project on gender representations in reenactment in a comparative setting. I chose a small subset of these interviews for this chapter for the sake of clarity and to describe different models of female participation and modes of constructing authenticity in relation to gender.
